I really like my butterfly koi and do not see many that are sold today that have fins as nice. So, I play around with breeding my own.
This year I moved 2 females and 3 males to the spawning tank on Tuesday afternoon. By the next morning they were spawning. One female did not spawn or at least I do not think she let go of any eggs since she was just as fat when I moved her back to the main pond.
A couple of fry had hatched by Friday night and many more hatched on Saturday.
So far I have not killed them all. I fought the ammonia for several days. Ammonia went to 0, and now I am fighting the nitrite. I hope to set up another tank tomorrow, and a 1000 gallon pond to thin them by the end of the week.
