The sketch on the aerial photo is roughly the placement of the new pond. the smaller circle is the spring which we were unable to incorporate because it was on a shale bed. however, the spring is making a nice little stream, other springs are filling the pond from the bottom, and we are landscaping the surface spring with ferns and irises. please ignore the line that was drawn going to the existing pond in the front lawn. it was meant to be an overflow line, but we didn't do it! otherwise the pond is close to the plan.
we dug test holes before construction. some filled with water from the surface spring, some filled from below and some didn't fill but were incorporated into the pond.
(you may notice construction going on below the red barn. that is another pond, a lovely shape, but it fills half-way, and then empties. we are working now on a bentonite fix, crossing fingers, and when/if that pond holds water, i will post pics.)
the tlast pic in this series is the inlet where the little surface spring flows into the pond. the pond dimensions -- roughly -- are 150' x 45 x 10-12' deep. it filled from the springs in thirty days. a conservation mix of seed was sown on the field and is now coming up. the tree house now has a reason for being
