Thank you. They will do great in your waterfall. Just make sure that only their roots are in water, not the leaves. Try putting them in a place where they are not being splashed 24-7 with water. That may cause blackspot on them. Same with your bog filter, only their roots in the water. The 6 packs are cheap and it never hurts to try. Post pics once you get them planted.

Dan I think they will do fine in a floating island as long as the roots are in water. If they would overgrow the island, just trim off the length. If you try this, please posts some pics.

here's a picture of my floating island of impatiens as well as the ones I put in my stream the first week in April. They have really mushroomed in size. The ones on the island, which consists of 5 plant pots with soil in them, are now covering the island and will get bigger. The ones in the stream have at least quadrupled or maybe 5-6t times their original size. I expect they'll get larger, too. I'm thrilled with them. I love impatiens because they are easy to keep as long as they have water and provide such a beautiful splash of color to any garden, stream or pond. I've always had hanging baskets of them but had never done them in water this way before. Thanks, Nancy, for teaching us about this method of planting them! they're wonderful!

Dan I have never had the New Guinea Impatiens to grow bare root in water at all. You may want to replace them with regular Impatiens while you can still find them.

Thanks - the credit goes to Nancy, though - I followed her instructions for the stream.

Sarah your Impatiens have at least quadrupled or more for sure! Your stream is beautiful. Soon your stream will be full with the flowers. They look great in your floating island too. Is that Liriope in your stream? I really like having it in mine. It does well bare root in water. Stays green year round too.

Mine have grown too. I will try to post some pics soon.

Thanks, Nancy - I do have a couple of clumps of liriope in the stream as well as bordering it along the sides outside the stream. I was surprised that it is doing so well inside the stream. I love being able to have plants in the water that way because they help provide that much more filtration for the pond water.

It has been around five weeks since I planted this years Impatiens. I do believe they are bigger this year in May than ever before. I have no idea why. The will be across the stream in a few more weeks for sure. Here are a few pictures of them that I took today.

It has just been two days since I posted the above pics. The Impatiens are now across the stream! I have never had Impatiens to grow as fastas these have grown.

Mine are growing just not at the rates yours are but we have had nothing but rain so they are not getting much sunlight and the temps have been real cool at night

      Do you not have slugs?
Those pesky pukes have eaten several of mine down to the roots!
I've put out bait, but obviously have to be careful not to get close to the water...
I can't for the life of me figure out how they make it across the water to the plant.
I even picked one off of my floating island!!!!

Hi Steve! Yes I have slugs here too. My pond has pine needles all around it. The slugs will not crawl on the needles at all.
Maybe a slug got on your floating island when it floated to the side of your pond.

Here are my Impatiens in July. First of June they closed off the waterfall. They have diverted the flow over the rock but that is ok. I had some black spot on the one left of the waterfall. I pinched off the leaves that had spots, and now the new leaves seem to be OK.

Post pics of your Impatiens here.:D:

The impatiens look terrific. So colorful! I have one lone surviver and it is growing, but not very fast. The pond may be too new. How much sun does your plants get?
