Yes. I read it's been the coldest Oct. here since 1981. The record low temp for today is 39*
so they expect us to break that this morning...

Nope, luckily we stayed above at 37*. Feels like 20 below!
I've had the wood stove going all day.

I love burning wood. I love the crackling sounds. I have gas fireplace logs. I have a product that I use that makes the crackling sounds.

My Altitude is 971' ~~Last Spring Frost is Apr 7~~ First Fall Frost is Nov 3~~ and my Growing Season is 209 days.

Here is the link to the Old Farmer's Almanac if you want to look up your area.

      https://www.almanac.com/gardening/fr.../zipcode/27127

Frost dates are calculated based on data from the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information.

Frost is predicted when air temperatures reach 32°F (0°C), but because it is colder closer to the ground, a frost may occur even when air temperatures are just above freezing.

I'm kind of amazed that it shows mine nearly the same... "Apr 8 Nov 6 211 days". Although the closest
city it has is Bremerton which is actually about a 30 min. drive from me. Looking at my garden now it'd be hard
pressed to say the season lasts till Nov. 6th. It's pretty sad about now... although my zucchini's still has 3 on it
growing but those will probably be my last ones this year.

Cool website though, thanks! I've always loved the Farmer's Almanac.

Are you close to the ocean? My Altitude is 971 and yours is 111.

Yeah, 111' is what they show for Bremerton. I don't live near the Pacific ocean but closer to water that is connected to it, so
it's the same level. Google actually shows my address to be 189' above sea level. The lighter colored water in this
pic is the Salish Sea which directly connects to the Pacific, the yellow line is the US/Canada border. The darker water in general is
considered Puget Sound but is connected to the Pacific via the Salish Sea and extends all the way down south to Olympia. Just fwiw.

I thought this was kind of interesting...
I pulled my small floating Impatiens island out as they were about done and loved how well
the koi keep the roots trimmed! The plant didn't seem to mind a bit...

The second picture is the floating planter tipped on its side to expose the underside roots:

      Floating basket directions

Hi Steve, can you post a picture of your floating basket empty? Did you buy it or make it? Quite a lot of healthy roots in your basket. I would like more information please.

I actually won 2 of these here in a VKS auction. I can't remember who the vendor was that offered them but don't think they're available
any more. I gave one away at another VKS auction... and I thought for sure I had a picture of them before I used them but failed at finding any.
So here's some I took this morning after pulling the impatiens out. They're only about 11" square and the plant opening is just 2" square.
I think they'd be pretty easy to make or modify to whatever size you'd like. It's made of a piece of foam that is the "floating" part and the
2" planting square is cut into it. Under it is a piece of what looks like Japanese style matting. Then a piece of plastic screen surrounds it.

I planted my Impatiens about three weeks later than I usually do. Here are some pics of them on May 7th. eleven days ago. I will take some pics of them in the next week and post them here.

Please post your pics here too if you decide to give them a try.

Nancy, as you have multicolored groups, do you plant more than one plant in each group?

Yes I do but you can only go with one color. I have one bunch that is all red. I bundle 3 to 4 colors together.

Nancy you are ahead of me and your impatiens look great. I put 24 seedlings along the water stream yesterday after a local company cleaned my water stream and pond out on Saturday. I had a massive algae bloom this year that got ahead of me and could not have done it myself. With the pond cleared up and the fish happy, we’re now moving onto landscaping.
