It has been seven weeks since I planted impatiens along my water stream. Since then the weather has been mostly chilly and overcast. As someone said, “We got three weeks of March weather this year.” But after a week of off and on sunshine and one good rain storm, they finally are beginning to fill in nicely.

This has indeed been a cool summer so far. Your impatiens are looking much better than mine! I am curious how mine finish with
no fish in the water. I wasn't sure how much the extra nutrients those fish provided and the effect on the plants. Right now it seems
it is a lot more than I thought.

Your Impatiens look wonderful. Now that your weather is improving they will really take off! You have a beautiful stream.

Thank you for sharing your pics and please share more pics later this summer.

The sun here has become more intense also. Mine start to show stress by August.

      Great idea!
I put mine in about 5 weeks ago or so. They're yellow and anemic looking...
Maybe they'll recover. They're all from the starts I kept from last year. For comparison I'll add a couple I put in pots too.
They were all about the same size when I planted them.

Looks like the fish poo in the water does contribute significant nutrients. But we have had a really chilly and overcast late spring early summer and you’re a little further north of me. Hang in there and maybe they’ll grow and spread in the next couple of weeks.

      Nancy, your impatiens look wonderful.

Pics of the Impatiens in July. They are getting taller and fuller now. Crossing the stream. Our temps. are in the mid to high 90's everyday and they are in the evening sun. They wilt down but in a few hours they perk back up.

      Yours are doing beautifully!
I have to search for an orange one like yours so I can propagate some for next year. I don't have any of those and
      it's a great color!

Our weather has warmed up and these have been in the stream for a couple of months now.
Just not enough of what they need to grow with no fish... although you wouldn't know it by the amount of string algae I've been pulling out!
It gives you an idea of how much the fish keep it trimmed back when they're not there to keep it under control. Impatiens pics at about 1 and

And it's three weeks later since I last posted. We've had mostly sunny and warm (even really hot) days since the last pics. And three weeks later, the impatiens have doubled again and are about to block the stone that is that path across the pond. Sideways. Oh well. It really is amazing how during 95 degree weather when everything else was struggling, these impatiens just do fine as long as their roots are in water.

      WoW!

They are doing great! You are right, with their roots in the water they seem to handle the heat pretty good. Keep us updated.

I (conveniently ) forgot the selfie but wow, what a beautiful pond and setting! Huge rocks make up a long natural stream that the
is a perfect spot for the impatiens and they're growing like crazy!
The stream feeds the pond which is home to a host of koi. Monte (montwila) visited too since Sue promised to make us lunch.
Enjoy the pics and thanks for a great visit Sue!

It's hard to get a sense of the size and scale, but the statue is about 5' tall!
