Sorry, don’t know why it is sideways!
They look nice & bright to me. I have used both and I always seem to come back to the Impatiens. For me, the SunPatiens grow so tall that they start breaking over. I just love how Impatiens drape over and float on the water. I take cuttings of the SunPatiens and start them in the stream. This way it makes them less expensive.

Here are some pics of my Impatiens this year. No sign of Downy Mildew at all. I think they should bloom until the end of October or the first of November whenever we get our first killing frost. They had plenty of days of temps. in the high 90's and did very well. They would droop down but once they were in shade they bounced right back.

      Hi Nancy,
Love the look of the Impatiens (Impatiens walleriana) around your water feature! Since they love water so much, it's perfect!
I haven't read through all 28 pages of messages ( :-) ) But have you ever considered planting Balsam Impatiens? (I. balsamina)?
I was in the UK a few years back and went for a walk with a friend through a wooded area. There was a stream along the edge of a field and on the wooded side there were many flowers that were about shoulder High!
When I asked if she knew what they were, she said they were Balsam. The flowers were Quite Similar to impatiens, as were the leaves and seed pods!
SO, If you would like to consider adding some Height to your planting... You may want to try ordering some seeds online! They come in Many different colors and flower types...just like their shorter cousins :-)

      Thank you Paul.

Looks like the Balsam Impatiens would do well for sure. I will have to keep them in mind. Thank you for the info.

Yes the taro is planted bare root in the stream. I put rocks on their roots to hold them in place. Glad to hear you are going to give it a try. I think you will love how fast they grow and they bloom several times also.

I just discovered this thread and read through it. Beautiful examples of impatiens along the water streams. Going to give it a try next spring as they would be perfect after the early spring bulbs are done blooming. Thanks to everyone for the pictures as they are all inspiring. Well that Black Magic Taro is a little bit frightening. It’s beautiful but my husband has been walking around muttering something about “Alice in the Little Shop of Horrors” ever since I showed it to him.

      Lol

So glad you took the time to read through the thread. That is great that you may try planting some Impatiens & Sunpatiens in your stream next Spring. Please post some pics here so we may enjoy your plants as well.

It is suppose to get down to freezing for the first time this year tonight so I took about 8 cuttings to try to root of my
regular impatiens and then ripped them out of the stream. Amazing how well they attach to the rocks! Sad to see summer go...

Is this early for you to have freezing temps?

They sure do attach to the rocks and they try to hang on when pulling them out.

It feels like summer just got here and now it is gone....
