I buy the Impatiens in the little 6 pack. Wash most of the dirt off their roots. Then I place them in my stream between rocks. I put a little rock on their roots to hold them in place. They will soon put out roots to hold themselves down.

My Sunpatiens overwintered inside for me. I took cuttings from them and placed them in the stream to root.

Sorry yours did not make it. Could be they were getting to much sun & heat.

      Have you tried Sunpatiens?

bad. Mine are always in a battle between growing fast or being eaten by slugs first. Obviously poison is out so they sit on the edge and hopefully
the slimy buggers don't reach/find them. Last year they all got eaten. This year it looks like they're making headway.
Steve they look great. Glad the slimy buggers haven't found them yet. Good luck & post pic updates!

I believe they were Sunpatiens as they were not the regular impatients. Were supposed to be good in shade or sun. I tried them in bog settings that were in full sun, partial shade, and mostly shade. It is hot here in Florida even in May. Wondering if anyone else in Florida has tried them in a bog setting and was successful??

Even here we get pretty hot. This week in the 90's with high humidity. Today was 95* & felt like 97*.

Your stream is way ahead of mine. I never really found any impatiens I like this year. There are a lot still coming up from seed last year that I dont know what are yet. I am sure its going too be a mixed bang for colors.

Take some cuttings from the ones coming up from seed.

I hope you all post some pics too.

I have been away for 3 days and I can see that they have grown even more.

Very pretty, the way they cascade into the pond. However, I read that all parts of the Impatians and Sunpatians were toxic/poisonous to fish.

There are a lot of poisonous plants, but as far as I know, man is the only one stupid enough to eat them. Take milk weed. Poisonous and the only animals eating it are poisonous and display brilliant colors alerting prey that there is at least a belly ache associated with eating them. I saw on list that showed taro as poisonous, and have had it drape into my pond for at least 15 years, and haven't seen any dead koi, and do occasionally see them pull and tug on the leaves that fall into the pond. I don't know if it is the taste repels animals, or what the mechanism is but like bears in the woods, they know what to eat, and you don't see them falling out dead over the stuff they shouldn't eat.

Keep your words sweet. You never know when you may have to eat them.

I tried this but I did something wrong All of mine have died but one. The stems just came apart in the middle. I love the way this looks but maybe here in SC its too hot. I may try again when I can get to the garden center. Has anyone ever tried petunias? Or periwinkles?

I haven't had a problem of any dead fish. I have had them in my stream for many years.

I have tried petunias & periwinkles and they all died. Maybe there was something wrong with the Impatiens. I would try again.

It has been about 6 weeks since my last pics. The summer is going by way to fast.
Anyway, the Impatiens & Sunpatiens are growing & doing well. The are very close to closing off the stream.
The Imperial Taro & The Black Magic taro are blooming too.

I hope some of you have pics to post on here. I would love to see pics of any types of flowers that you have grown in your stream or pond.

      Nancy, yours are amazing!
The slugs have weeded out mine and decided which were to be eaten and which would grow... but you
sure can tell our weather is nothing like yours! Look closely for the one on the left that has been eaten
steadily as opposed to the other. It was eaten down to just about nothing and has come back a little so
we'll see if can make it before they realize it's not gone.
