may she rest in peace, largest red cap oranda

well, I almost sold this one a few weeks ago. Glad I didn't. Around one week ago, at the rear of the wen, it started to turn clear, and lose the red coloring. It was acting completely fine, eating, playing, etc. No other symptoms. Then, all of a sudden, I came into the room and it was dead, floating on the top. Water parameters are perfect now. I think it may have just died of old age....

it was 3 years old at least. i bought it over a year and a half ago at 5", it died at around 9" (I have big hands). No other issues with any of its tankmates.

I don't think these red caps were bred to live long. their body shape doesn't allow for it.

      any thoughts?

      Ethan

Just wanted to say that I am sorry that she died. She was a beauty for sure.

This says 10 to 30 years.

Sorry Ethan, I know you really like her a lot. Orandas can live awhile, my cousins have one that's thirteen and has lived in a fish bowl it's whole life. Sometimes animals just die... The wen color loss seems a bit odd.
