      dragon scaled ogon

Interestingly enough, I have had several comments here and elsewhere that this fish showed off pretty well for a dragon scaled piece of crap....I mean carp.

Anyhow, I thought I would get some comments on her. She died actually a couple months ago by jumping from her quarantine...but overall, I picked her becuase of her even dragon scaleation....if there is such a thing....

Is there room for dragon scaled fish in a professional pond, or will they never amount to anything. I don't own one any longer, and probably won't buy one, unless its something spectacular. This one was purchased before I came to this site.

Fish is 13" in this picture and two years old.

It doesn't have a clean head and the scales just look trashy.

Has too many uneven scales and looks too busy for my tastes, maybe if it was a little doitsu, then I'd pick it. But overall for its variety its not bad.

All the rest of the comments aside, IF you want to know/see what FUKURIN looks like, look at the white surrounding each scale on this fish. Although the scales are unevenly sized (typical with this type of fish), the fukurin adds depth and composition to the overall effect. Kinda like a stain glass window.

Ethan, please post the first photo into the thread discussion about fukurin so folks can see/understand what it is they should be looking for.

Hey, ummm...isn't this a doitsu with scales gone wild instead of orderly rows? I think this is where the dragon scaled fish come from, but not sure. Anyone know fer shure?

Yes, Marie, you are absolutely correct. This is a "mirror scale" koi which is a variety with the Doistu crosses. Mirror carp usually have larger uneven scalation which are rather reflective, thus the name "mirror"!
