I got my Showa and a box buddy, a Platinum Goromo, about 20 minutes after touchdown. They are now home and in the QT.

I float the shipping bag in my QT for about 30 minutes. I then float a bowl with some QT water and a bit of chloramx in it and then gently dump the cargo bags into the bowl and wait for them to settly down a bit while I inspect and take a few photos. After the photo shoot I hand move them one at a time from bowl to QT, then I dump out the bowl water. Be very careful that bag water never gets into your QT.

BTW, I'm very impressed with the quality of both fish. I see many good thing to come here! Thanks Russ and Kari.

Nice fish I believe the scale reticulation doesn't come until much later on the goromo. Until then, they do look very much like a kohaku. You would need to look at the scale very close for the signs.

Lee a platinum is a white fish, I would have thought it was a kohaku too.

I am not sure about the Platinum part. But because it looks like a Kohaku does not mean it is.

I purchased the nicest Kohaku, who is now becoming a Ai Goromo. I think it will be a nice one because as a Kohaku it had a great pattern and color. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Brad, if Russ said it was a Goromo then I would think it will become an Ai Goromo like mine.

I have seen Platinum Ogons (white metallic fish) they do look silvery to me and heard of Platinum Kohaku but never heard of a Platinum Goromo, there is always something to learn every day here it seems.

Platinum in this case does not mean silver, it means that the beni has a metallic sheen to it. The platinum Goromo are pretty unique to Mr. Sakai. There is a tiny bit of gray on the main Kohaku step pattern.

Thanks guys. I picked it out as a possible kohaku too, but I knew enough to ask Russ for sure. I love the confirmation and the pattern but was concerned it would get too dark... I did a little google searching and found a picture of a mature PG. It seems they get a touch darker but not that much darker. More a light silver/gray than the normal dark navy/black that I think of.

I'm glad you guys like it. I sometimes wonder how exotic may tastes are compared to other Koi keepers. I enjoy learning and a good conversation Koi just feeds that spot.

Nope, and I should have... I also had trouble. I tried a few things like adding the breeder name (Sakai) and removed platinum and found somebody in St Louis (I think) who had a 3yo. Let me see if I can find it again...

Brad, looking good. The colors are so sharp. Hope it grows up and keeps those nice colors, it will be quite a fish. Will be interested in seeing pictures once in a while to follow it's (no name yet) development.
