      1 of 2 picks...

I picked no 23 because of the conformation and the way her pattern stands out to me....

      Those are both good choices.

      Hugh,

I turned all the pics until the head is pointed down and tail up. This way it will give you a good view of the koi from tail to head. I know, the advice is too, late. But it is good info for next growout!!!

Below is my pick. First priority is confirmation and second priority is a hi showa. #44 has both I think. When I look at it, the koi reminds me of a tuna and tuna has a torpedo body shape.

Dislike - no beni/hi on the tail, but I like the pattern- sumi, hi, sumi.

I demand some comments on this koi...I said demand and not request

Especially those that took a good look at this fish and decided not to take it. Thanks.
I'll admit it, this was my number one of the bunch. This is a well balanced showa that I think won't be too dark when finished. Nice job picking Hugh.

Hints: Don't let the dark pecs fool you, the sumi will consolidate as the Showa grows and develops. This is typical for Mr. Sakai's Showa.

The lack of Sumi on the pecs is also not a worry IF, there is Sumi on the gill plates. It there is Sumi on the gill plate then Moto Guru will develop. Also if you have Sumi on one pec and not the other but there is Sumi on the gill plate next to the pec without it , it will appear in time.

I hate to say it but it does not always apply with Mr. Sakai's Koi. It is because of his magoi bloodlines. The females can look very much like males.

      Russ,

Can the sumi overpowered beni and cover it entirely since the sumi is very stable in this showa?
