I'll start. I picked this one because I like the longer body and the white looks incredible. The hi on this one looks pretty good and I can see the sumi coming up and looks like it will balance nicely. The pect look clean as well. I don't know much about showa and the last one I picked out isn'y looking so hot but this one does.

On edit. I also thought about 8, 12, 21, 26, 33, 42, 50, 51 and 59. Not necessarily in that order.

I think it's great to see what everyone chooses and it will be great to see how they all develop. Overall it will be a great learning experience.

If I could ask. Where did you get the picture of 59. That is not the same angle as in the other post, is it? I see things on this angle I didn't see in the original.

Here is mine. It doesn't have as much hi as I would like, but I liked his head, and particularly the white nose the best. Afterall, thats the part I'm going to see most... sticking out of the water mouth open asking for food

I like the shiro on this one, and I'm interested to see how much sumi pops up on the back. The contrast between the jet black sumi and clean shiro could be very pleasant.

Any comments on this one?

It's a great pick. It was on my short list, along with many many more. It's hard to pick with such a good selection as this. I think your correct with your assessment... and I think, based on the one photo, that a good share of the tail sumi will come up in a few years.

We picked 59 basically because we liked the fish. I'm not really sure what is going to happen with this, especially the portion of the head that is a little off color. I looked at some threads that showed development of a showa and found one fairly similar to 59 when it was young. In my opinion that fish turned out to be very nice. I would like others comments. Especially those that took a good look at this fish and decided not to take it. Thanks.

At this age it is a guessing game but females for the most part have more rounded pec fins Males have a bit more of a point to them.
