      Thumbs up Kodama Koi Farm

I have bought many fish from Kodama Koi Farm in the past 2 years; most of what I own have come from there. They have been 100% healthy and considering all I have, that's pretty amazing. The staff is always friendly, with great communication and FAST shipment. I have also purchased supplies and food from them.
I would never hesitate to recommend Kodama Koi without any reservations. A+ in my book and I can't wait until my next trip to HI to visit them.

Do you always purchase from the auctions or do they fill personal request for certain fish types?

Both. The Aka Matsuba and the Budo Goromo I received today (seen in the Main Forum thread) were personally requested fish from last fall that they held for me, and the Shunrai was an auction fish.

Gang, I will be visiting their facility the last weekend in August and will give you a pictoral/written report on what I see. Might be nice to see what it's like on the other end of the supply line

I just bought from Kodama this week. I had been looking for the small authentic culling nets and Kodama has several to pick from! Fast shipping and some very hard to find items are found on his site!

      A+

      Hi!

I've bought 4 fish from Kodama. Two are coming tonight. My first experience with them wasn't picture perfect. I ordered a $1,200 ginrin and a young lady called two days before shipping and said that it was "accidentally released into a pond with 400,000 other koi and was irretrievable." I thought it was pretty sketchy the way the story went so I was concerned until I saw the money back in my card. One of my local dealers and I talked about it and we came to the conclusion that someone probably put in a higher offer ;(.
My second order went a lot better. The fish came in and was very healthy I'm happy that I got this one over my original one because she had longer butterfly fins and better girth
The two coming tonight were supposed to have come in last week, but again a young lady called and told me one of them had a bacterial infection on its fin, but should be healthy for this week. I don't want to speculate again, but it does sounds a bit sketchy to me.
Overall, I'm satisfied with them. They are legitimate and have a lot of experience. I know either way I'll get my fish or money back. Everyone I know have rave reviews about them so I may have just been that one unlucky guy ;/

ok well it turned out they did not ship my koi yesterday. I gave them a call because I didn't receive the shipping info in my email. It seemed that they had forgotten to ship it out yesterday as they had stated last week so I asked if it was still sick and she said "yes", but the tone and manner in which she answered sounded more like "uh oh.. oops, I forgot about that."

I'm not too sure if I'll buy anymore.

They did the exact same thing to me about 4-5 months ago. I purchased one of their auctions and had shipping scheduled , they confirmed the purchase and the shipping date. I waited and waited for fedex , no shipment. I called them and left a message for someone to call me back for tracking information, no one called back. I had to continue to call till someone answered . They told me they forgot to ship the fish and they did would have to check a "health report on it". Then they called back again and said the health report was good and they could ship the fish. They were not even apolagetic about it. I am very busy and if I have sceduled time to be available for a delivery I expect it. If they would have called the day before to say they were not shipping that would be one thing, but they never ever called to inform me this fish did not ship. I canceled that order, it took them close to 2 weeks to refund my credit card. Two days after I canceled this order I got an email from fedex (or ups, whoever they use?) with a tracking order that they were sending this fish. I had to call them again and tell them that I canceled this order. So not only did they not send this fish when they said they were going to , but they were going to ship it again after I canceled the order.
2nd problem with them , I still one Asagi in QT that has the most crooked back i have ever seen that they did not disclose in the description on the auction. This fish I have had about 6 months, I keep it in the qt to give my other new fish company. In spring I will have to figure out what to do with it.
I would never purchase from them again.

I have purchased koi from them on several occasions. Fish have arrived in excellent shape. Packaging is first rate. When I have called to inquire about their study program they were very pleasant to talk to. I plan to visit them in August after I visit with my mother on Kauai. They seemed excited that I would visit with them, instead of the other way around!

If you compare the koi they sell on their auction site and compare them to the ones on eBay, you might notice they are of similar quality and size. However, there is a huge difference at what the starting prices are on their website compared to their eBay sales. This is because shipping has already been added. That's why koi on kodamakoifarm.com can start at $85, but one of similar quality and size on eBay starts at $180. This makes up for the difference.

I had a similar thing happen when I bought "2" fish from them in November. The shipping date was scheduled and I made it a point to be home. However, as it was getting late in the day I called and they informed me they had somehow forgotten to ship the koi. The young lady was VERY nice and apologetic. They offered to waive the shipping charge of $100. However, instead I opted to have them include one of the Dainichi study fish at NO CHARGE. I've always had great service with them. Maybe they learned a few things from the previousl problems listed in this thread. (Sorry to hear about the Asagi....That is a shocker.)

Picked up a couple Yamabuki's from them, got them for a great price. Shipped on time and arrived in great shape. Was very pleased with the overall experience, and with the koi.

I recently bought a Tancho Sanke from them and the entire process was great. While I didn't buy the first one that Taro picked for me he sent me more to look at until I found the one I wanted. The shipping and packaging was excellant and beyond reproach.

I would highly reccommend them to anyone looking for "that" fish.

I had them hold a couple of auction koi I won so I could bid on some more. I ended up with 4 fish that I was very pleased with. I had read stories of shipping issues with them on this forum, so I called them to make sure all 4 would ship the following day. I was assured they would. Later that day, I got a call from Kodama Farm saying my tancho sanke was 'stressed' and should be left to heal at the farm for a week. I asked what stressed the fish and they could not tell me. I asked if they thought shipping would be detrimental to the sanke's health and they said if I had an adequite QT setup, which I do, it should be fine. I asked them to ship it with the others.

The koi arrived on time and in great shape. Triple bagged with plenty of padding and a cool pack. Some of the best packaging I have seen to this date from a farm! I would absolutely do business with them again.

I've purchased multiple koi from them, and my experience has been mixed. 1st shipment came in and everything was perfect . Second shipment never shipped and I wasted a day waiting for my fish (I was soo stressed out not knowing where the fish are..) .

One shipment came and 1 of the koi had an ulcer - I was able to get the ulcer to heal, but it is scarred . Kodama sent me a replacement koi .

I bought a showa time and when i received it, i realized that it's head a "dent" in it . you couldn't tell from the pic they posted because the dent was in the head area where there's black. that's the risk you have from buying online from a pic.

haven't bought anything from them since the showa...
