Today I got the net. I ended up with a net with the size 11 meters x 5 meters. I`m not sure how many ft that is... But tis lage

I also got a wire I will fasten between two threes, and attach the net to it. In the bottom of the pond I will use a tractor to place a lage chain from one side to another, and stretch the net under it. I hope that will keep the net in place, and to be tight. I don`t want the net to be a fishingnet

Well, an update is due on monday. If I dont have a fever after working in water with 2C temp

I`m finished with the net It was a h... of a job, but now its done. Just hope it will work out ok I`m not sure...

Hi Haab,

Nice size water......... in time some aeration will be very benefiicial to help control algae. whether electric or wind mill variety! I have some 15,000,000 gallons of water for an active largemouth, smallmouth bass, bluegill and yellow perch population with a heavy carrying capacity for fish on my clear gravel pit lake. Koi will be beautiful as a stand alone pond/lake with a couple of water bikes to enjoy the view. Presently I'm working on a watercourse in my backyard towards the house with 4 lined ponds and some 200' of streambeds. , all joined together The biggest and last pond will be some 50,000 gal separated beside the larger lake for large koi development. I will pump up some 5000 gph into the top overflow pond from the main lake, falling into a larger lined pond below. the streambed will move the water down towards the house and circle back and down towards the lake some 12' lower level to lake water height. The result, I divided the drop in approx. half and created another level to have the drop less dramatic with another lined pond ,walkways and sitting areas. I have worked from June until present just to complete the last two ponds , building retaining walls, rip rocking the lowest pond to help with the water pressure against the driveway next to the lake where the pressure of the water may create a blow out into the lake (believe the 5000 gph will raise the water in the last unlined pond to the top of the driveway where I will need to build a streambed over it so the water will fall back into the main clear gravel pit lake. This unlined pond is sand and gravel but will still fill with 24/7 water input until it reaches an outflow.....my best quess, instead of leaching out the side walls back to the main lake?????

Very nice, Haab! I had the joy of building two stream-fed ponds, one 2 acres and the other 7, about ten years ago. Much easier than what you are doing! We have bottom drains if we ever need to drain them, so we don't have to deal with the pumping you had to do. Also, fish will keep the plants down. What is the water source, springs? I am pretty sure I know how cold your water is in the winter, but how warm does it get in the summer? Ours gets up to the mid to upper 70s during the summer here in the US mid south.

BTW, were those floating plants with the spike blooms aponogetons? I imagine Koi will love them, so you won't have a problem with them taking over again!

I would love to have a bottom drain, but I didn`t have the time or money to do it this time. And, Yes, the main water source is rain, particularly during the spring. In the winter, the hole area is covered with 1+ meter with snow. And it rains from Mars to May

In the summer the water temp will be about 20-30 C on a sunny day. In the sun, air temp can get up to 30C. I don`t think it will be a problem with the depth in the pond.

I hope to have somting to "report" in a few weeks. I will cut down a lot of the woods surrounding the pond. And I will have to start looking for a few Kois I have never owned a singel Koi or Goldfish before

There are a lot of cheap land around here, so you can just move

But there are no jobs here Most pepole have to work in the city (Oslo), 1h 30m with train/car.

Just back from a well deserved rest in Jamaica MON..... I will post pics soon once I downsize to fit here..... been very busy after work each day and on the weekends...... about half completed this season from the middle of June, will restart in early April 2008 to complete the top two ponds and connect them to the streambed and other two ponds completed now. I will need to run the electrical wire to the lake from the house for the external pump once all completed. Hoping to have the water moving by the end of May and add the final touches during the rest of the summer overlooking the 20 acre gravel pit lake. Take care. I need a winter rest!
