Bump Paul did you start yet

Ok now if all you other experts are watching.
I would love for one of you to maybe if you have time
Pretty Please !!!! the next time you go shopping and buy say a 1/2 gallon or 1 gallon from start at the greenhouse.
If you could do a step by step with pictures and words of how much you cut back the roots and tree.
Kind-of a picture tutorial from selecting and why all the way to re-potted.

Hey Lee I was pondering it today but with the temps @ 94 + / - I'm a bit leery in re-poting anything. I'll see what next week brings. I may have to wait until fall

It's starting to look kinda like a cal juni with grafted shimp. Very nice. One of the old timers in Cal does this a lot. Can't remember who but after a while he gets a tree that has a life line and everything. They end up with what can pass for old ( 100+ yrs ) collected shimp. You are heading in the same direction.

Never been a fan of phoenix...I think it's definetely an art form and takes skill
and hardwork but just an old enuf fogey to want the real thing. But will look forward to seeing the photos and skill it takes to make it look believeable.

One nice thing about doing it this way is most want instant gratification with a live plant and will work all day to strip away bark and carve to create the same effect from a living tree. The problem with this is the subject in bonsai terms is young and the wood doesn't hold up well to ageing whereas an old piece from a mountain top that's 75 years or older is harder wood and is more impervious to wear/insects/etc without having to use lime/sulpher as a preservative.

I have been enjoying these threads....

I found some on him but the first link that came up was down or something.
I did find this website earlier and am amazed at the bigger half dead trees this fellow finds and creates with, pretty neat stuff.

wow, this is my first time really looking at bonsai trees. Man that would be a fun hobby also. However, if I pick up another hobby my wife might kill me.

No I did not see that, I knew they were big by some of the pictures but that really shows how big.
