Michelle I love that elephant bowl! I have heard several people here say they keep theirs outside in the summer only. I have never tried it. Mine are always at room temp. in the winter too. The room they are in stays around 72 degrees.
Well....... I'd like to introduce you to Klyde (short for Kaleidoscope) We just had to rescue him from betta bowl obscurity today.
He has such an interesting range of colors, from pale pink to turquoise... These pictures don't of course do him justice.

I was having a hard time believing mine was eating...never saw him and would fine the uneaten food so I began to worry. So when I was outside I noticed some mosquito larvae in one of my tubs for waterlilys...I really thought it had been too cool for them yet but I guess that warm spell we had woke them up so I scooped up some in my little net and took some inside for my betta.....Oh MAn .....you should have seen him ....he was all blown up in a second and chasing them and feasting on them ...it was so cool to watch ....so now I have been going out there everyday and getting him some....there is also some daphnia too and he loves them all! Now when I throw some of his teeny tiney pellots in there he will actaully attack them cause he thinks they are gonna move....hehe...I knew I was smarter tahn him and could get him to eat!

I've been considering putting Red Fred and Klyde out in my lotus tubs after I plant them, for mosquito control in the summer, ever since I read what Joyce posted on another thread about how good they were at that. I still may do it.
if i don't kill mine first. I had a light burn out in the big aquarium and put a lamp beside it till craig got the light today. Little ARt was on his side and the water was hot. Immediate water changes, extra air and antibiotics for secondary infection threat. I feel like dirt
they're all veiltails....check out www.aquabid.com and see the bettas there. The crowntails and deltas are awesome!

Awwww ...Cindy I almost did that when I first got mine...got this really neat desk light that I thought would be perfect for his light turned it on and went off doing housework came back and hour or so later and I thought you know... I better check the water temp as he sure was being active... the water was waayyyy to warm so I immediately turned off the light and I use it in the computer room now...LOL I decided right then and there he better survive with room temps...scared me though....but I love watching him go after those bugs...he so beautiful all puffed up and sooo blue....i really am going to try them outside..Randy wants a different color in each pot!then he got this gleem in his eye and I knew what was coming...he said... Then at the end of summer we can put them all together and who ever wins gets to come inside for the winter ...I said uh huh...right.....you better get your pillow cause I know who's winning this fight and YOU being the loser will need his pillow out in the doghouse!

they made it thru the night and ate a little breakfast
Ok, well since looking at the link Sarah posted last night before going to bed my dreams were full of bettas, particularly about getting the crown tail one I'd seen last week..... And after the awful morning with finding Ginger dead..... I told Bruce about my dreams, and of course he said, well you should go get him. Marie came over to visit and console, and we all packed off to Pet Smart. He was still there in the etched bowl they had him in last week, and I bought that too ....

Hi all, I'm new here. I love my bettas too, but I know see what a bad mom I am .... I have never named my pretty boys :{ I will have to try to come up with their names.
Hi Mars and Welcome to Koiphen.
I name all our fish, usually based on looks and sometimes the names get changed based on personality that develops... sometimes that can be a little heart wrenching as it does make it a little harder when you lose one.
We would love to see pictures of yours when you are ready to post them.
Look at the 'peanut gallery' in the first pic. Babies in the 50 gal. watching what Lari is doing.... LOL
