      Talking My Betta Buddies

I have five now. I just love them. I love to watch how their fins flow in the water. All five will come up to take the food from me.
I use a turkey baster to suck up & clean the bottom of the bowls. This also does a 20% water change at the same time. I keep a big pitcher of declor water by their bowls to put back in. This way the water is the same temp. Very easy to keep them clean.
I also change the position of their bowls around weekly. That way they don't get lonely and no one gets hurt.
If you have Betta's please post their pic here.
I would love to see them.

This is Red Fred checking out his new "bowl ornament" I got it in the Christmas exchange from tiredandoverworked but the bulb had broken, so I got to thinking it would sit on the lip of his bowl nicely. It does, and I just keep it there now.

Pretty, I have 2 - Bob and Tom. The open bowls wouldn't have a chance cost my Melba sits on top the tanks like a vulgure. I have heaters in both tanks.

Wouldn't it be neat if they got along and you could have an aquarium full of them?

Lari Red Fred is beautiful! Thanks for the picture.

Cindy That would be great to have a hugh tank full of Betta's. What a beautiful site that would be.
My tanks are in my Jungle Room. Gray Cat is blocked from that room. I have my Parrots in there too.

If you have Betta's please post their pic here for all to see.

These two are my son's. He named them after his cousins, Cait and Kelsey. I told him they are males, but he thinks they look pretty enough to be 'girls'. As you can see, he likes a lot of decorations...and the bettas seem to like swimming in and out of their caves. I have heaters on these too. Wish they'd tolerate each other cuz I'd love to rescue a few more from their tiny cups in the pet stores. Paula

Awesome! The little tank is decorated so cute.
I have two bettas. Just got the second one last week. I really enjoy them too.

Paula very nice setups. How many gal. are your tanks?
Mine are not heated but the room the tanks are in is heated to 74 - 75 degrees.
      Your son's Betta's are beautiful.
I hate seeing them in those little cups. that's why I have 5 now. The ones in the bowls do just as well as the ones in the tanks.
Five is an uneven number. Maybe I need just one more to even things out.

      Nancy,
The one tank is a bowfront 7 1/2 gallon I think. The second one is a bowfront 2 1/2 gallon I had for guppy fry...but it makes a better betta tank. I'm getting the itch to get a big tank and try some other fish. I think it's the winter thing. These tanks work out great for the bettas cuz DS can put plenty of decorations in there and they still have more water to swim around in than they did before. It's funny, cuz they had to learn how to swim when we first put them in. They could't even really turn around in those tiny cups in the pet store. They have the good life. Paula

You can put dividers in a larger aquarium (not those tiny little boxes). I have raised and bred bettas, trying to get pure red ones. Lot of fun, but a lot of work.

Joey I have tried the divider once. My Betta just jumped over it to the other side. Never tried it with any of the other Bettas.

Another fish that can get you to go overboard setting up "tanks" all over. I can get alot of these on a shelf in flower vases. Pier 1. This is just silly.

I remember as a kid that we had a Betta in the same tank with some other fish, like molly's and guppies, but now a days it seems you never see them with other fish at all. Has anybody else ever had them mixed with other types of fish?

thee several years ago I keep one in a community tank of peaceful fish. 29 gal. tank. All was well for about a year. Then one morning I looked in the tank and several fish were dead. That's when I saw him attacking the remaining fish. I took him out and put him in his own tank.
After that I have never trusted them with any other fish.
Such a shame they are not peaceful with one another. Just imagine how beautiful a tank full of Bettas of all colors would be!

I just got one betta last week, a very pretty blue one. He is in the 50 gal tank and seems quite happy. Nobody bothers him and he doesn't bother anyone. I'm glad he has company. Jeannie

I do Thee. He is with a couple little guppies, a couple long fin tetras or rosy barbs (I forget) and some neon tetras. I could fill up every single clear glass container I have with them. They are awesome. Jeannie

Each betta is different. One of ours is very aggressive and flares up every time he sees the other one in the tank next to him. The other one not apparently aggressive and I have been able to keep a clown pleco in there with him. The clown pleco is nocturnal so he hides out in the cave during the day, they trade places at night...the pleco comes out and the betta goes in. Seems to work for them.
