      Spawning

We are on our second spawning this year. The first was rather mild, but this one the last couple days has been extremely violent. Some of the Koi are really beat up. Need a little advice what to treat them with to keep any infection away until they heal.

I just make some medicated food yesterday for a koi I have been treating.

I had a spawn yesterday in a separate pond …I’m giving them some of the food to keep them in good shape.

Just another thought, I suppose if there were a couple with really bad wounds, you could net them and apply an antibiotic ointment to the wounds.

Depending on how one's pond is set up, here is something that can help prevent future injuries. My pond has rocks around the edges near the surface, but not on the bottom or sides. It is close to the house. So if we here a lot of splashing, we can go drain the pond down a few inches so the koi won't be hitting the rocks. Also when the flock comes around our side, I can net out the female that everybody is zeroed in on, and let her dump her eggs in a separate tank/tub. We've only had to do it once, but it worked. The rest of them settled down, and all was fine the next day.
