Advise please on how to medicate my Koi

      Good afternoon,

Please could I ask for some advise as to how to treat one of my Koi which appears to have some wounded areas on the lower body and around the dorsal fin as shown in the attached pictures.

I've kept Koi for 5 years but haven't had any problems to date with my fish and am still learning so would very much appreciate any advise on whether I should take action and if so what kind of medication.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me.

You need tricide neo, either water spray method of smear on one and done. The pink parts and the rotten fins. Originally I was going to recommend using iodine to treat first but given the multiple infection sites, I'd recommend tricide neo.

What's your water quality parameters and water temperature

      Hi rdelooze,

Treating koi ulcers requires a careful and methodical approach to ensure effective healing and avoid complications.

Start by isolating the affected koi in a quarantine tank. This helps prevent the spread of infection and allows you to monitor the fish closely. If the koi is large or particularly active, you can use clove oil to sedate it gently before treatment.

Clean the ulcer with a Q-tip dipped in diluted hydrogen peroxide or iodine. This removes surface bacteria and debris. Be gentle to avoid damaging healthy tissue. After cleaning, apply an antibacterial product like a bio-bandage or propolis to seal and protect the area.

Keep the water quality in the quarantine tank as clean and stable as possible—good filtration and regular parameter checks are essential. If the fish is still eating, you can also feed medicated food to support healing internally.

If the ulcer doesn't improve within a few days, or worsens, it’s best to consult a vet who specializes in fish care.

Best of luck..hope your koi heals up soon!

What's this bio-bandage that you mentioned?
