After a year I can post the results

First this information am going to share are just my results and opinion after a complete year. During the koi show a couple of weeks ago many folks commented on the color and skin condition of my koi and asked me what feed I was using. Last year 2024 I was given a 5lb bag of high growth crumbles of koi and goldfish food the following weekend I had a spawn in my backyard and I told my self to test the food with that particular spawn for the duration of the 5lb. I have mentioned before that for the first 10 days I feed the fry with green water it's loaded with micro plankton and it's the perfect size for the newly hatched fry after that I start them on dry powder that I make with a small coffee grinder I have I present the powder atleast 3 time's a day and once they reach a certain size I stop grinding the food and present them the food in it's natural size. After a year of using only that food I feel I can honestly share my opinion witch is what I told most people if not everyone at the show some of them asked me if the feed was available at the show and I pointed them to the booth where the feed was available. Now let me share what my experience with the feed has been and let me mention one thing I told folk's during the show that approached me that I was going to do this on this forum. So as far as water quality I saw no difference with the feed I was giving my koi in other tanks, growth was pretty decent I had to catch the tosai at the 11th month mark and I was able to get a better idea of the growth and if I was to give an average size I would say 5.5" to 7.5" now I have to mention that for the first 6mos those koi were divided in two groups in 300 gallons of water for each group it wasn't till the end of summer that I found the 9' above ground pools on sale and I was able to to reunite both groups in about 1k gallons of water. As far as color and skin condition very satisfied and please don't forget that my mentality on keeping koi is my main focus is keeping the water that to me is probably the no.1 item on my list. I shared with the folk's that gave me the food that I would be doing this, these are just my thoughts and personal experiences with this feed. This isn't about who's food is better other's these are just my results after one year of raising a group of fry to tosai, please don't forget this was a test some folk's get some small samples take it home and I don't think one can get a good idea of how the food works I feel one year allowed me to present this information to you all. The name of the koi food is; premium koi & Goldfish food and the sample tested was their; High growth formula and the name of the farm where the food comes from is; we're so koi inc. in Blountstown, fl. I must add I don't know their prices I've never visited the farm and am not being paid for this. Am just sharing my results after a year, would I continue to use the product I came home with 10lbs of the same food I hope this gives koi keeper's another Avenue to explore in the event they are looking for other choicesName: 20250330_115803.jpg

      A good fish food.

I have found, leave your fish food packet open outside and see how many fly's it attracts.

They annoy you when you having lunch around the braai.

The name of the food is so generic sounding that a lot of companies come up when I searched for it. But when I included the name of the farm and the town, it found the farm's web site plus two other sites where it can be purchased. [I don't know the makers or have any personal experience using this product.]

Thanks, I found the company after reading very carefully at this very generic looking label.
The only thing that I don't like is the poultry by-product meal but overall it's among the top bang-for-the-buck feed.

I have added to my feed list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...awIWRY/pubhtml

I keep it simple and cheap, a 5mm by 30% protein 25 kg bag of Tilapia growth food every couple of months.

Price RAND 675.00 for 25 kg of 5mm. RAND exchange 18.50 to 1 US DOLLAR.

Made UP for the TILAPIA FISH BREEDERS, hence the cost is acceptable to me.

The ingredient list gets torn in half when i pull the long string tie opening the woven bag to get to the plastic bag of fresh food.

Koi labelled food bags are not worth it to me, I get ample growth and healthy fish.

Size. It's all in the fishes genes as far as I can see.

      I no longer show fish.

I could be off, but are you implying that your statement can't be verified due to a phone call in today's world...

I know what your after and that is to inflate your ego with arguments but you know what, you never answered the question you were asked, so what are you doing here trying to to run people from this forum like you have been doing for God knows how many year's. Why post a negative comment about a website when you don't even know the origins of the image. Make some sense about your differences and don't be an A__.

This sells for about $40 for 50lb.

Feed grade ground corn is about $200 a ton, soybean meal is $300, corn gluten meal is about $400, and fish meal is easily $1000 a ton.
Purina's koi feed "Mazuri" brand also contains ground corn and is amongst the cheapest "koi" feed.
Tilapia feed has no color enhancer.

You wouldn't put 91 gas into your Toyota Camry, and you wouldn't use 87 on the Mercedes.

Makes sense. At the low price, I feed a lot of that "87" to my "Camry". And in many years and they grow big.

We still see the odd Toyota Camry's around.

Very, very popular and reliable sedans in their day.

I have not tried that type. I feed my koi the Mazuri (Purina brand) that you mentioned and have for decades. I use the Mazuri Platinum that includes the color enhancer. I really don't know if that is necessary, though it does not cost much more than their type without the color enhancer. I recall the late Conrad Kleinholz (PhD in Fisheries Management and koi farmer) saying that if your pond gets sun and significant algae growth on the sides, then they don't need any color enhancer in their feed.
