      Zakki Sieve O-ring replacement

Anyone know where I can get a 16" Zakki Sieve O-ring? Mine is leaking a lot of air. I have tried for years to find a replacement but now I'm getting desperate. This year It's sucking too much air and and won't run the pump.

If no option for a replacement any suggestions for sealing it? The obvious is Zac but I gave up on getting a response years ago.

Measure the neoprene rubber O ring diameter with a vernier.

Measure how long a piece you need.

Cut to exact length and join with Japanese glue.

      Should be hey presto.

That's a possibility, but where to buy the piece? It's unusually long. Also it's I believe called a Face Seal or ORFS which is round on top and flat on the bottom.

I can't believe no one has had but do this.

I got mine from McMaster.com the Oil-Resistant Buna-N O-Rings. I used Permatex weatherstrip adhesive to hold it in place. Autozone part number 81852

      Good luck

Could it not be disfigured from years of compression?

If it's got a name,it will be available.

Is this a flat flange gasket with bolt holes?

Did you buy a length of cord and cut or did you buy the correct size from the start? If so can you share the size? Also was it just an O-ring or was it flat on the bottom?

      Thanks, appreciate the help.

No bolt holes but it's flat so you can glue to flush to the sieve.

Google the O RING STORE. or face seal.

You will find the profile face seal, it will give you the cross section dimension you are looking for.

I purchased the correct size o-ring not a length. I believe they are o-rings and are not flat on one side. There's a groove routed in the pvc that the o-ring sits in. The adhesive holds it there. At least with the 24" zakki's. Not sure about the 16" units.

Thanks, yeah I think I'm wrong about flat, I could have sworn it was but maybe not. I haven't taken mine off yet till I find a replacement. I found some other air leaks not related to the O-ring so I'm going to target them all first and I might be ok but I'll still look at getting a replacement.

Let us know what the specific product number is for the 16" Zakki when you find it. There are a lot of Zakki's out there , and parts could be tough to find now that Zac is out of business. I've had mine for 10 years and never replaced anything yet. I'm probably overdue for something to break...

I don't have a ZAKKI Seive but I have made my own gaskets and O rings for pressure filters.

What I use is DOW 795 silicone (neutral cure) on the base. It will adhere to PVC pipe, acrylic and most plastics strongly enough for structural strength.
      1) On the lid section, I tape on sheets of waxed/baking paper to the lid over the area that will get silcone. (So silicone can't stick to the lid or wax/baking paper).
      2) Then I add 2mm shims - uniform spacers in the gap evenly around the area but not in the silicone bead path.
      3) Next I place a bead of silicone around the O-ring area (it won't be that neat) and then place the lid in place on top. The lid will spread the silicone to the uniform thickness of the of shims/spacers. If you have added too much silicone volume, it will become a very wide messy unsightly bead but this can be trimmed after cure. Neutral cure takes a long while to cure so it is quite forgiving time wise. Resist trying to make the silicone bead neat while wet.

      4) After full cure, the lid can be lifted off and the waxed paper and tape removed. The O-ring you created will be 2mm higher than the bottom surface allowing the compression seal you require. The appearance can be cleaned up with a sharp knife but will still work if ugly.

It's not as much work as it sounds and great if you have a fiddly gasket to replace.

If you are not confident, you could use a glass sheet instead of the filter lid to create the O-ring for the cure phase as this will let you see what's happening.

When you " place the lid on top " , are you latching it with the clips so it's under pressure, or just resting it on top ?

Place lid loosely on top while silicone is fresh. It's only to create a smooth uniform thickness of silicone while it cures. You want the cured silicone to sit slightly higher to get a compression seal when latching lid on later. You can use thicker or thinner shims accordingly but 2mm higher was a firm seal in my situation.

In a pinch, I've also used expanda foam spray from a spray can and quickly latched the lid on while fresh. You only need a very small narrow trail of foam and you have to be fast. This does provide a great watertight seal but it's unsightly and very hard to remove later. Acetone will dissolve all the expanda foam nicely but it can strip paint.

I haven't glued it yet but looks like it fits. I hope it helps someone.

Now I need to find a replacement lid clamp. I found a 3" version but I need 5".
