Hey folks,
Two fish started to show signs of being unwell last summer. The smaller of the two suddenly became very slow and bloated. He passed away in quarantine the same day I put him in. He had bloating with minor raised scales and severely low energy. He also had sores under the bottom fins.
The second fish I monitored because I wasn't positive If it was sick. When water temperatures dipped it suddenly was bloated with raised scales and I put it in room temperature quarantine in November. I've maintained moderate salt with water changes and no sign of attempt to eat food since then. It has recovered slightly with no raised scales but still bloated and unhappy.
The water quality is good but it's a large pond with some unused piping with anaerobic water. Otherwise circulation is good. 25k gallons with only 10 fish at the time.
I live in south east VA and we seem to be in a koi vet dead zone. I have been unable to find anyone who could diagnose or prescribe anything.
Any advice would be very helpful. It has been in quarantine a long time and I don't know if it is a good idea to return it to the pond in the Spring... if it's still lethargic and swollen.
I do have a microscope but I've learned I'm not very competent with it!
Brent
