      Amakacin and other questions

      Hello everyone.
After lab tests showed aeromona bacteria our vet prescribed Gentamicin injections. These were ready prepared in the syringes. They made a big difference but we are not there yet despite being in a bacteria free heated hospital tank. In between times I have acquired Amakacin 500mg injection IP but we are not confident about dilution or dosage. Does anyone have a definitive answer please?
Also, has anyone ever experienced the colour coming off a Goshiki (red) when they did a scrape? I’ve done lots of scrapes and this has never happened before.
      Thank you in advance.

Since you have a QT setup, why not using Oxolinic Acid for a week in the water? Can you post some photos or videos? What does the vet think? Antibiotic treatment can stress the fish too.

Amikacin is a pretty strong antibiotic. I would fallow the vets procedure until done. And I would contact the vet about using amikacin. I used it a few times many years ago but dont remember dosage. Its very affective and one injection worked for me. https://www.koiphen.com/forums/showt...ive-Discussion

Among hobbyists, opinions vary. Not sure how much vet opinions do. So I can't say this is "definitive", but one vet years ago prescribed Amikacin at 5-7 mg/pound of koi (twice daily). So at 50 mg/ml, he said 1/2 ml for a 5 pound koi, or 1 ml for a 10 pound koi.

For Amikacin with a stronger concentration, one would need to convert that down. Also, a reasonable weight estimate for a koi of average build would be 2 pounds for a 15" koi or 5 pounds for a 20" koi or 10 pounds for a 26" koi.

This info might be of help to you,a question to COPILOT,prescribed dosage for the treatment of Koi fish, using the drug Amakacin

The prescribed dosage of Amakacin for treating Koi fish.

Is 5 mg per kg of fish, weigh your fish very carefully for the correct dosage, typically administered daily for three injections, followed by every

other day,(EOD) for two more injections.

Amakacjn can be toxic to the kidneys, handle cautiously.

Hi. Thank your for your reply.
I have attached an image of how she was before the antibiotics. The ulcers are very pale now and a lot of the skin has turned pale pink/white instead of red but I don't have a recent picture.
Is there a particular type of Oxolynic acid I should use?

How long has it been? How warm is your water?

Try to get pure Oxolinic Acid powder, I think the concentration is 0.1ppm in the water for a week. This is very potent and will wipe out your bio. I'm not sure it's needed now that the fish is healing, the important thing is to provide good water and let it heal.

We were hoping to get her back in the pond before winter but if she and her friend have to spend some more time in the vat so be it. Thank you

If you can get the water to near 70F it'll speed up the healing but then you are looking at least another month or so before it's ready.
