Am I accurate if I call this beauty a Tancho Kohaku? He/she is only 5-6", so the beni on the head that I am labeling the tancho might change?
Thanks,
Phil

Sure. My koi with a Tancho spot lost it
Technically, a tancho kohaku has only one round spot of beni on the head. Your koi would simply be a two step pattern. Also, in the photo it looks metallic and also possibly doitsu (scaleless), which would make it a Kikusui.
Can you get a better photo of it, brighter and with less glare?

Ci, that's a maruten kohaku.
Koiphen 2023 Koi Person of the Year!
Definitely going to be a learning experience with this one.
In large pic and at base of tail you can see scales where the light hits it?
Thanks for the replies! It is scaleless so I guess Doitsu is correct, I forgot to mention that. Sorry I can't get a better picture, already released into the pond and pictures there aren't better quality. I guess my question was more general, is "Tancho" a separate category altogether or just an adjective descriptor you can put on any variety fish?
tancho is an all white fish with a red spot on its forehead.
if the fish has any other color, along with the red spot, its referred to as maruten. technically.
so, technically, tancho kohaku and tancho showas dont exist. they should be maruten kohaku or maruten showa...but you know...people call them whatever they want.
