      What will the offspring be?

      Hello friends:

I wonder what kinds of offspring I can expect from the following pairings:

      Female: Orenji ogon

      Male:
      1) Platinum ogon
      2) Yamabuki ogon
      3) Kujaku

      Especially:

Will I get hariwake from 1)?

Will I get kujaku and matsuba from 3)?

      Thanks for your thoughts!

Are all of these koi fully scaled? Or are any Doitsu, and if so, leather or linear?

I've bred metallics, but I have never bred any two solid colored koi together. I know from once using a soragoi female in a spawn that you don't have patterns on both the male and female to get young ones with patterns. However, I don't know if you can get any patterned koi from crossing two koi that are solid colored, even if they are different colors. But I think Sean has done that, maybe he can tell if he got many (or any) patterned koi when crossing solid colors.

I would think you could get each of the 4 varieties that you are spawning. And yes, I suspect you could get gin matsuba when crossing an orange ogon with a kujaku. I got several gin matsuba when crossing a Doitsu (linear) yamabuki hariwake with a Doitsu (leather) kujaku.

I guess you might have been asking about orange matsuba and not necessarily gin matsuba. I don’t recall getting any of those, but I see no reason why you couldn’t. It’s basically a kujaku without the white.

I have never used a solid orange colored fish, but I have paired: Platinum ogon gin rin (F) with Yamabuki ogon (M), and Yamabuki ogon (M) Kujaku(F).

The Yamabuki - Kujaku pairing did make some solid color (orange) metalic offspring. While the Platinum ogon with Yamabuki ogon produced either solid white, solid yellow, or white and yellow combined (many were gin rin). Don't know if this is helpful... My "guess" is that you'll get a mix of several types, probably with a higher percentage of Matsuba.
