Carefully check the pinkish red area on the body - could be stress or ulcer related, but hard to tell from the photo. The mark on the head is red colouring.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

      A future young Koi keeper,

the 12 year old son of the pond owner, bought this fish with some of his allowance.

He saw a future in this little Koi.

Japanese Koi keepers will never criticize any Koi fishes poor quality, they are taught to

look for all the good merits of a fish.

This Sanke has very nice pectoral fins with distinct recognized Sanke Tejima

      markings on the fins.

      A merit.

If you can take good care of it, do that, if not, find someone who will. Every life should be treated with respect.

You could grow fond of it, and keep as a learning curve.

You just never know with fish.

What is hidden below with especially Showa and Sanke.

Take regular pics of it and look for those underlying colours.

Patterns and color, can just come and go.

Will the next buyer in the fish store be as capable as you to take care of it.

You obviously have a lot of time for it.

Let us know how things go.

It's a learning curve for all us fish keepers.

This small koi is indeed nothing to be much excited about. But it can still be a pleasant fish to have in a pond, as long as you have not yet started to suffer from the koi expert's critical taste for good koi. Then you would find it unbearable to keep.

The red well disappear. To heavy in the back with black and nothing to balance with the front. The only good thing about this koi is it has a strong tail tube.
Just a pond fish to enjoy or move on. That's up to you.
