      Best bead filter

Am wondering if someone could recommend a bead filtration system for my 10,000 gallon koi pond

Please tell us more about a 10,000 gallon koi pond in Vancouver, many of us really like reading about a build project.

Ditto! Always interested in Canadian builds, since really good filtration units and parts are so hard to come by.

I’ve a Sacramento Koi Advantage 15 on my bottom drain and an Advantage 5 for the waterfall. Pond has been running for 17 years and never have had an issue with water quantity. Zero complaints. My pond and filtration gallonage is a bit over 10,000 gallons.

Can you put a submersible pump on a bead filter? I unfortunately don’t have a bottom drain so all pumps are submersible. I have 2 Oase boxes, 2 55w UV lights and 2 homemade media barrels; one static and one moving. About a month ago I added an ozone system. ORP is between 290 and 350 yet I still have green tinged water. It’s been hot and sunny here for over a month.
I’m thinking a bead filter or something else is what I need to clear up my water. Had some sick fish so started medicated feed about a week ago. Can this explain the green water?

What kind of ozone system did you get? Link?
How old are the bulbs in you UV lamps?

If you have 10,000 gallons in your pond, I would suggest you consider a large bead filter such as suggested above, fed by a pump that can provide at least 7,000+ gph at 10+ feet of head.

The best solution in my mind would be an external above ground pump with leaf basket drawing water from a retro drain on the floor of your pond, and the bead filter could discharge into a large bio-chamber such as a DIY shower that flows back into the pond.

      Just my thoughts.

I had the 15 and it worked like a champ for 18 years and then the beads became impacted, blew all the internals out and the multi port valve as well. Since I am no longer to do as much with my Parkinson’s, I’m just replacing it. Trying an AlphaOne Nano 4.5 this time.

Over the years seen many true bead filters that had issues from compaction. Maybe caused by not flushing properly, not often enough or possibly not enough pre-filtration. Seems the pressure filters that use media other than beads are more dependable, tolerant to abuse and flush easier.
