He or she insists on going under my fence by the pond. About 11 inches. I don’t mind but I read
My cats can get salmonella. Is she trying to lay eggs?

Looks like a female with the shorter tail and shorter claws on her front feet. She is a Red Eared Slider. They need land to lay their eggs. Is there a pond close to your house where she may have come from? If so you can take her back there. If she is trying to get into your pond, she needs to be wet. They can stay out of water for around 8 hours or so everyday to dry their shells. But she can only eat in water.

It's possible she's trying to lay eggs or explore a bit. Turtles can be quite unpredictable.

Hey Cindy! Your turtle adventure sounds so interesting. It's possible she's trying to lay eggs or explore a bit. Turtles can be quite unpredictable. Just keep an eye on the situation and make sure your cats stay safe. Also, you can read more care tips for these creatures here https://www.tortoiseowner.com/best-t...-species-pets/. Enjoy the company of your unexpected guest!
