Thanks Matt!
Those are some of my favorites too. It was a lot of fun going through these and wondering what they will actually develop into. This tank had the most fish of any of the tanks, but there are still alot that I haven't seen closely. In the first picture (group shot), you can see that there were a lot of orange & black. The orange was ok, but the black was very thick and really black. Not sure if any of those will turn out as keepers. I hope to pull the remaining three tanks before it gets too cold.
Sean, can't wait till they get a few more inches on them they are looking pretty nice.
Koiphen 2023 Koi Person of the Year!
Thanks Orlando.
Yes, they are still small 3-4 inch range right now. Probably won't get much growth over winter, so these will need to wait until next spring. We generally have somewhat mild winters, and most years I continue the feed the main pond. I try to get food to these little ones over winter as well.
In general, we were very pleased with what we saw yesterday. However, I've seen the wheels fall off the bus many times in the past, so not going to celebrate anytime soon....
Orlando, I definitely agree, but I've been very busy managing the 2024 group. It is also very hot here now, so pictures may need to wait until Fall.
I will say that they are growing nicely. Patterns and colors are changing, but not sure how many are really nice. There are several (maybe 5) that have a definite Kohaku pattern, but with the red substituted with brown, but still with a white base. I hope these retain the brown and continue to improve, however I fear that the brown may diminish over time. There's a very wide range of fish that came from this pairing. Time will tell if I ever attempt this again, but I remain optimistic.
