      Suggestion on skimmer

      First time poster.

We purchased a house with a pre existing pond. Lots of trees equals lots of debris all year long.

7000 gallon pond- 30 x 30 feet square and 14 inch depth. Bottom and walls are poured concrete.

Aquadyne bead filter AD 16000 Model 4.4 C(600 gallons per hour filtration)
2.5 inch intake pipe with a universal strainer that can be used for gutters etc.
      Output to a waterfall.
      Above ground Dragon Series pump

There is a separate Proline compact skimmer with 40 watt UV filter attached to Proline skimmer pump. This is in another corner of the pond. I put on a standard mesh bag around the intake to decrease debris.

The intake to the bead filter is around mid pond depth. So no true skimmer and no true bottom feed. It clogs daily with debris.

Looking for advice on a decent skimmer for ease of use (and no longer getting on my knees to pull the strainer from underwater).

I have thought about adding a y connection to add a bottom feed as well.

I would also appreciate advice on improvement to the UV filter strainer.

      Thanks

      Matt

      Matt,
I am having difficulty understanding your setup and where the strainer underwater is attached. Can you post a photo?

I assume this pipe goes directly to the pump, so it will have a suction effect on a no-niche skimmer added to the pipe and provide the surface skimmer you asked for.

Thank you for the reply. That is what I am looking for in general.

You are correct. The pipe goes to the pump. The pump does have a filter basket. But during heavy leave season would fill rapidly without some pre filtering.

The issue is that the water depth is a maximum of 13 inches. With evaporation, it is sometimes a little less. This limits the options available.

      I will research this.

      Thanks again.

      Matt
