      Question Lotus depth

I am contemplating throwing my Lotus, that have always grown in large watertight pots, into a pond that is about 3 foot deep with no filtration. Will they survive the depth? Hoping they will take over the pond 6x20x3

Is that 6' or 3' deep, because I've seen plenty of them doing very well in 4' to 6' of water in large bodies of water.

Your location at 3' concerns me a little they tend to be a warmer water plant but if yours have been adjusting to your area temperatures, they just might be adjusting.

I leave them on my screened porch over winter and pull them out when the temps warm. I have this pond sitting with nothing in it.
A deer jumped in it a couple of years ago, and did some punctures in the liner I fixed... I was going to change out the liner but decided to wait.
It's holding water so I had the bright idea to let the lotus take over that pond. We have trails here with large ponds waterways that are full of lotus

If I leave them in the flat pots in the pond they will eventually jump the pot

No it was purposed for a lilypond. A deer fell in and damaged some of the liner so I never put any back in. It is holding water good so I decided not to change out the liner but wondered if I could just put the lotus in the pond and let them take over that one but it is about 3 ft deep one side is maybe two feet (for about 2 feet).

After my old pond got hit by otters, I plugged up the bottom drain and put about 10” of dirt and compost in the bottom. I planted lotus and lilies right into that substrate (so, a little over 3’ of water in the deepest part) and both did fine. The lotus grew huge leaves above the water line, but minimal flowering, as my climate is marginal for the warmth they require - I did get a few though: )

Looks so pretty! Even if the lotus never bloomed their leaves are beautiful.

Thanks Ci I think I will try it....
Lotus are heavy feeders do you think they didn't flower because of fertilizer?

No, I think more my climate. Lotus are not common here - maybe too cold in winter, not warm enough in summer? The pond was rich in nutrients from the compost, and the foliage was explosive! Maybe too much nitrogen, not enough balance of other macros?
