List of treatments to whole pond

I thought a list of all medications/treatments that can be safely added to the whole pond would be a good resource for people. I know the ideal is QT if a koi in your pond gets sick, but some people are not able to do that sometimes for various reasons. So maybe a list can be made on this thread…

Salt, 0.3% to 0.6%, might help various mild conditions, personally I have not found this to be helpful.
Proform-C, which is malachite green and formalin, kills most parasites and fungus. 3 daly treatment regimen, can be combined with Fluke-M on the last dose.
Fluke-M, kills gill fluke and body fluke, 2 treatment, weekly.
Prazi, kills gill fluke and body fluke, 2 treatment, 3 days apart, mix with alcohol to dissolve before dosing.
Potassium Permanganate, kills some parasites. Steve ICU swore by it for growth and water quality control at 2ppm, 4ppm is needed for treatment, have peroxide ready to neutralize, very deadly if overdosed. Strong oxodizer, I had used it to burn off dead skins on fish to help it heal quicker in combination with oxolinic acid.
Chloramine-T, kills fungus and helps some bacterial issues, I have not used before.
Dimilin X, prevents anchor worms and fish lice, treat every 5 days for at least 1 month if not 2.
Oxolinic Acid for QT treatment, deals with bacterial/internal infection. Personally I use 0.5ppm in the water for 7-10 days and longer, it is very durable and don't need redose unless water change.

In general, you want to treat the whole pond if it's parasite, including nuking your biofilter to make sure you eliminate them all.

What is the lowest water temperature you can use Proform-C, as a treatment? My current temperature is hovering around 48 -50. And I need to treat my pond. I have read this treatment because it is formalin based cannot be used at this temp is correct?

      Microscopic examination

of the slime. Gills, "armpits" and any "spots" you may see. You need someone in your area with a brain. No vets. Salt is pretty good....on french fries and watermelon/cantaloupe.
Got any koi folks/clubs near you ? Not "judges". Koi people... OR.. a fish farm within an hour or three. Type of fish irrelevant. Those guys can surely help... Zoo ? "perhaps"
      "Experts" at aquarium/pet shops. NO
Keep the air whippin. any way possible. 100% oxygenation no matter what. Anything in there...rox...plants. Can that crap NOW. Take a wine glass and dip it in the pond. Offer to your neighbor. If he declines.... so do the koi !

IIRC 50F, the container should have instruction, wait for the water to get warmer I suppose.

Please restart this inquiry in the Emergency & Health Issues Forum so others will see it to address it. And you will need to supply your water parameters in order to have your question properly answered. What are your readings for:

      Water Temp:
      Ammonia:
      Nitrites:
      Nitrates:
      pH:
      KH:

Also how big is your pond (gallonage) and how many koi do you have in it now/what sizes? And what kind of behavior and for how long are you seeing it? Have you done a "scrape and scope" or are you just guessing at the problem?

Usually Proform-C + Fluke-M is first line treatment option, more so than PP.

100% Solid advice! I'm currently treating for Anchor Worms for the first time ever and have been using Dimilin X for almost a month now. It's almost gone, so I will hit it with Praziquantel and then when temperatures are warmer, some BSDT because I noticed 2 white bumps on fins, two fish, each with a bump. It's probably nothing to worry about but I don't take any chances. I'm doing water changes 3-4 days after Dimilin X and then repeat the treatment. I also have some Tilapia Fingerlings I ordered for my Bass, I put them in quarantine in my indoor Aquaponics tank and started treatments and thank goodness I did because they would have caught the Anchor Worms in my pond...

If you do too much cleaning, to quickly, it drastically changes the water parameters and the Koi need time to adjust to the changes. I'll do a 50% water change 1 day, clean a filter media container the next day and so on. It's much easier on the fish and gives the different levels of filter media time to recharge. I have 3 layers in my trickle shower and do a maximum of 2 levels in a day, it's fast enough to be done over the span of a week (depending on pond size, temps, etc.) and slow enough that the Koi have time to adjust at a safer level.

The white bumps on the fins can be encysted anchor worms, it'll take a while for them to be gone from the fish so keep treating the pond.

Thank you! I am still treating the pond but I'll have to use Prazi until I can get more Dimilin, I don't have enough left to do another treatment.
