      Air-Layering

I have had fairly consistent results with air-laying some plants using the old tried and true method of damp moss and twist ties, but someone recently suggested I try the 'new' pressure pods. I wonder has anyone else used these? I am trying them on my yerba mate trees ( Ilex paraguariensis ) , but want to try them on my bay laurel ( Laurus nobilis ) which have been problematic for me. Has anyone tried the pods?

The pod looks interesting. Let us know how it does for you.

The air layering was a success, one of the Yerba Mate is already blooming. Didn't love the plastic shells, black isn't a good color for FL, I had to cover it in aluminum foil to keep it from baking the new roots.

Glad it was a success for you. Black color for the pods would not be to good for the south.

After reading this looked up the propagation balls and it looks like they are now available in green, white and clear along with black. In the past I've used clear plastic film and clear water bottle for the covering the peat moss. These look interesting.

Good luck it you try them. They weren't my favorite, for me not really any easier to use, restricted the size branch I could use and the zip ties didn't cinch as tightly as the twist ties. They required more frequent opening to moisten the moss and the zip ties were not reusable, whereas the twist ties were.
