We are pleased to announce WWKC is sponsoring a K.O.I. Certified Koi Keeping (CKK) Scholarship in Steve Hodgin’s name.
Steve was the heart and soul of both WWKC and Koiphen. He spent countless hours supporting WWKC, most recently serving as both President and Treasurer for the organization. And on Koiphen, the world’s premier koi forum, he shared his deep knowledge of all things koi. Whether you needed help in pond construction, koi husbandry, water gardening, or anything else, Steve was there with an answer.
The Steve Hodgin Memorial Scholarship will sponsor one student on their journey to become a Certified Koi Keeper. The CKK coursework consists of nine classes to be completed over a one-year period and covering Anatomy, Physiology, Biosecurity & Quarantine, Nutrition Filtration, Pond Construction, Water Quality and Diagnosis and Treatment of koi diseases. A final lab ensures you know how to handle koi properly and tests your knowledge of typical situations koi keepers face. More information about the standard CKK scholarship program is available at https://koiorganisationinternational...r-scholarships .
In addition to refunding the application fee of $100 if the student completes the course within 12 months, the Steve Hodgin Memorial Scholarship will provide the student with a proper microscope (a $100 value) necessary to complete the Lab work at the end of the courses.
Interested students should submit a short essay (up to 250 words or so) stating their current experience with koi keeping, why they would like the scholarship and how they will use CKK knowledge in the future. Send your essay in a Word document to Sue Kingston, K.O.I.’s Student Coordinator, at sjkingston@comcast.net by December 15, 2022. If selected, you will be expected to pay a discounted application fee of $100 (normal course tuition is $205), which is refundable upon completion of the coursework within 12 months. This scholarship is open only to U.S. applicants who are active members of Koiphen.
