      Lily help

Something is snapping off my lily pads... Pads are healthy, clean cuts mid way of stem, not old or mushy. Finding them floating in lily pond.

First thing that comes to mind is a turtle.

Maybe another Snapper or the monster Snapper found his way back. The lily pond is only 2 ft deep at the most.
I will try skimming the net around the bottom to see of I find one. It seems as though it is only one plant and thought maybe a critter looking for fish but there isn't any in there

In all likelihood, the snappers would be least likely as they are more carnivorous than common water turtles such as sliders and painted turtles which have a much higher percentage of vegetation in their diet. This from the Northeastern Naturalist may be tmi but....

      Fifty-four turtles were
trapped and housed to collect feces. Examination of feces revealed a diverse diet with
comparatively high frequencies of animal, plant, and algal matter. Eight hundred
fifty-seven seeds of at least nine plant species were egested (among 87% of turtles),
with all but five (99%) seeds visibly intact. Seeds of Nuphar (473) and Decodon
      (305) were most abundant in the feces. Life-history characteristics of both C. p. picta
and Nuphar suggest an effective endozoochorous seed dispersal association.

It's turtles, they absolutely lay waste to lilies in my pond. I have to put chickenwire around them.

The bite is almost the same every time, it's like a clean 45-degree angle. They turn their heads when they bite it, taste it, don't like it and spit it out, forget, and repeat until you have no pads left.

      Update
I sump'd the lily pond today and cleaned the bottom of debris and floating lilypads. .
No Turtle but was surprised to find 3 koi, 2 koi and a Butterfly 5 -6 inches. Interesting as I had no fish left in the lily pond they must have been on some plants. I missed eggs or babies. I haven't been feeding so I guess they decided to munch out on the lily pads. Plenty of water hyacinth and lettuce in there.
      Surprise Surprise
