I have a few koi that I want to bring to the zna show in September. In preparation for the the show I bought some color food for the beni (saki Hikari color) and some kodama Hisilk for the shiroji (white enhancer ).
I have a kohaku, tancho kuhaku, showa, lemon hariwake, and a matsukawabakke that I may bring.
I have some questions.
1-When should I start feeding these to the koi. 4 weeks, 6 weeks 8 weeks before the show?
2- The listing on the Hikari color says that it won't mess up the shiroji (which I am worried about) Can anyone confirm that it won't turn the white yellow?
3- what mix should I use? 50/50 or do I need to mix in regular saki growth food ex: 33/33/33
4- I have to stop feeding all together 1 week before the show. Do I need to stop the color mix sooner than that, and go back to regular growth?
Anyone who has showing koi experience e please let me know.
You basically have 11 weeks until the show. This is what I would do (and is, in fact, what we are doing):
- Start feeding 40% color / 60% growth immediately and feed that formula for 6 weeks
- After six weeks, switch to 50% whitening / 50% growth for 2 weeks
- After the two weeks, switch to 100% whitening for 2 weeks
- After the two weeks, stop feeding entirely for one week
BTW, you don't ever want to feed color and whitening food at the same time.
