Sand and gravel filter pre-filter question

I'm thinking about adding a pair of DIY 55 Gallon S&G filters in parallel to my existing pond to feed an additional waterfall/stream.

Would pulling water from my skimmer that has a leaf basket and blue Matala pad be adequate pre-filtration?

I do have a BD and Cetus Sieve but its already maxed out and feeding my existing waterfall so I'm thinking about just pulling water directly from the skimmer.

I'm thinking a 2" bulkhead in the skimmer fitted with a check valve to 2" PVC > 4k gph external pump > S&G filters > Waterfall

Sound like a decent plan? I know its probably not ideal but I'm trying to keep costs down to a minimum.

      Imo, yes.
Mine is essentially the same but I have a no niche skimmer and found my 2" outlet from it made the pull from my ES3500 Evolution
pump too strong, so I changed it to a 3" outlet from it to the pump. It does have a priming pot as another "pre filter" before the pump then
goes to a UV and then to a single s/g filter. The head on the pump is about 8-10 ft. It has worked perfectly for about 10 years.
