      Injury

My koi got an injury today. Not sure how it happened. No sharp objects in the pond.
      I haven't seen a heron in years.
The injury seems quite large to me.

      How should I treat?
FYI, pond water quality is good.
Will it get better on its own?
Should I add anything to prevent infection?
Should I take him to a vet?

That looks more like it tried to swim into the skimmer or a submersible pump intake. For now it is not showing any signs of infection so I would just keep an eye on it. If redness starts to show up, indicating infection I would treat the wound with Tricide Neo, as a powder, but the fish will need to be sedated for this.

if you have iodine, put a few drops on it to prevent any infection. if not, just run out to tractor supply and get a bottle of Wound Kote. Apply a spray and try it keep it out of the water for about 10seconds for it to adhere. Will stain purple but it'll go away in like 2 days. will stain your skin too, and clothes.
