muck reducers

Anyone use the muck reducing tablets to combat the anaerobic bacteria and all the accumulated debris on the bottom of a mud pond? Mine is too big to vacuum anything out. It was there when we bought the property. Have been removing debris as the water levels allow. Have two big aerators but the muck/debris at the middle of the pond is about 1' soft sludge deep. Any ideas are welcome. I am leaning towards the muck pill as the pond is at its highest right now so I have great air flow. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

How about a pool cleaner with long hoses, going into your weir and on into your sand filter, to be pumped onto the garden when dirty.

They are all snake oil and a waste of money. Easy money and plenty of manufactures and sellers willing to take it. A few years back you could find independent university white papers showing little to no value. With today's profit driven internet all you'll find are advertising and glowing endorsements.

Increase your aeration and circulation to reduce sludge. If the muck is mostly inorganic material the only thing that will work is mechanical removal.

My pond is about 1/4 acre and is about 10' deep. I don't think it would work.

Spend the money on what is proven to work. Get more circulation and oxygen to the bottom and the bacteria already present will greatly multiply and eat up sludge. If you have a lot of inorganic fines that have collected over the years then only removal will work.

I can't find an independent pond study on digester products that is currently posted online. Only advertisements. I did find a statement from the EPA saying such products for septic tanks are of no value digesting and eliminating sludge!
