Vet prescription required for fish treatments in Canada

Health Canada in their infinite wisdom saw fit to ban all useful over the counter health meds for fish in 2019 for all trades, aquarium, aquaculture, ponds. These meds now need a vets prescription to purchase. I have tried so called herbal products in the past and have not found them the least bit helpful so I knew that option wasn't going to work. It hasn't been a problem for me as I had a good stock of prazi and proform C here until now. Gill flukes are a typical problem for me during spring start up and I wasn't wild about the prospect of using PP to treat parasite issues and I wasn't hopeful about finding a fish vet, but I have thank goodness, so if anyone is having issues and would like the vets contact info just pm me.

This might be a stupid question, but once you get your vet prescription where can/do you purchase your Prazi and Proform C? Local pet store? Online stores like Chewy?

Sometimes we are blessed to be in a country that allows us access to the chemicals we need to maintain and control pests...

I'll find out from the vet when I need them.

When I went to get Amikacin or Baytril I bought it right from the vet.

Thanks for the info, this spring I had some ick issues but I was lucky to find some malachite and formalin at a local pet store in London, but I don’t know how long will they still have it. It was not cheap either.

The veterinarians political lobbyists get these laws passed for their members. Good for added easy Vet income. Typically a greatly exaggerated excuse is used as a reason. One example is heart worm prevention treatment for dogs needing a Vet's prescription in many places. More dogs die of heartworm and DIY treatment overdose as a result vs getting this treatment over the counter.

You can still get Formalin/Malachite green on Amazon .ca (as Kordon Rid-Ich) as well as fendbendazole (Panacur). Tricide Neo and Chloramine T (Crystal Clear Wipe-out) are at some pond supply outlets. Potassium Permanganate can also be found, as a possibility for some things.

I talk about using these options for a shotgun treatment in this thread:
