Your right, but he is so far away from SA Tx.

Concrete contractors that build swimming pools and tank structures for farms, industry and businesses know how to build the correct structure with plumbing. For a koi pond one must know the necessary plumbing and filtration required. This is key to a successful build.
I've known many through the years that researched koi pond plumbing and filtration and then developed detailed build specifications for the plumbing needed. Working with a competent concrete contractor successful koi pond builds were constructed.

The real Batman wears polyester! Don't be fooled by the plastic imposter.
Hello Birdman, Glad your still helping folks on this site. We just finished a pool, large wrap around elevated deck adjacent the pool, a larger 12 x 12 pagoda along the end of the pool and grass area with two retaining walls holding soil for planters to give us some privacy while in the pagoda. It took two years to complete these projects and now we have an area adjacent the end of the pool wood deck and pagoda deck looking towards the trees in the backyard to place a pond. I will post a photo of old plans with approximate dimensions soon.
We are on rock, alternating hard and soft limestone thinly bedded "Glen Rose Formation". on little over an acre in NW SA. We are on a hill so the area behind the pool, deck, pagoda drops off towards back of property. We have a 14ft x 25ft area between the pagoda and woods to place a pond before it drops down and slopes. Room for a large pond if we wanted it and a large steep ravine, but I would like to keep it natural below the drop-off. So the rectangular pond will be approximately 5000 to 8,000 gallons. My wife would like a few water plants and goldfish kept separate and of course I would like koi in crystal clear water. This time I am thinking about a clean formal look rather then natural (although I would like it to blend into the environment). Our home is what they call a modern farm house "large beams, one-story, long with brown/gold/white/black flagstone on house, pool, pagoda slab (although I don't want to use the same for the coping on pond). The pool equipment will most likely be located on drop-off center of long side of pond. The perfect place for the pond would have been between the pagoda and our terraced retaining walls where the grass is "wife had to have her grass for future buyers with dogs". So she finally agreed to let me have the area mentioned after lots of pleading and crying.
Birdman, your right, pool contractors would be my first bet when pond contractors hear don't seam to be qualified to do concrete koi ponds, but there has been a run on swimming pools in the area that is growing very fast and influx of new folks from California causing new builds and buying frenzy and they don't want to do pond work. First I need to design the pond layout enough to get a final bid on excavation and concrete work.
Here are a few quick photos I took today, hope you can see the area I like to place pond: end of raised deck continuation off Pagoda pad towards trees and adjacent black top soil where we will place grass. I can push rectangular pond a little farther towards grass if needed or farther from pagoda deck if needed (just keeps dropping along slop).

Stephen, Glad to be back, did you move and give up your great ponds?
Bob
I found a koi builder in Houston who would like to build the pond. The company name is USkoiponds.com, has anyone used them, if so were you happy?
Thx
Bob
Hello Russell, No decision yet, my landscape architect recommended this company out of Houston (2 to 2.5 hours away) so I am looking to learn more about them before I decide. I understand you would supply all the plumbing, filtration and install, You would consult. I would need to find an excavator and designer and full service concrete contractor. I need to establish what my costs would be and of course we have to establish shape, depth. There is such a rush on contractor here it is hard finding someone who will do a koi pond and has experience.
Thx
Bob
still looking for a professional koi pond contractor in San Antonio area.
Bob,
Did you ever had this pond built? I know it's been so long but I never heard back from you.
Dennis
Dennis, No after finishing the backyard shown above my wife wanted to downsize so we did and relocated a few miles away in 2024. We just completed the pool and working on landscaping. The home is traditional one-story and like the previous house the backyard drops off (although we have great views).
The pool is modern with planters adjacent. We have an area adjacent the pool and planters that could accommodate a pond. Our problem is finding someone in the area who has experience building a concrete koi pond, this home is our retirement home.
So we are in no rush, just considering it, although prices have gone through the ceiling on pools here.
Bob
