      Yamabuchi Ogon suggestions

I'm looking to buy a young yamabuchi ogon. The goal is to have it grow to a nice deep and uniform yellow color.
I looked up some information on how to choose them and found out that it's no easy task.
These koi should be picked light yellow when at young age, the color should deepen as they age. Kois that already have a deep color when young usually fail ( this is the result of my research )

Because it's my first time with yamabuchi i decided to look for some advice. These are the two i found that i would go for:

Size: 66.3 KB
      Name: yamabuchi-ogon_29.jpg
Views: 324
Size: 58.5 KB

Both are 12-18 months old and similar size. Both from Izumija.
Is this what i should look for? Which one would you pick?

      Thanks

I have a question here to the knowledgeable:

The first one´s gill plates seem to protrude outward, while the second one´s even. Need one to be concerned?

      Thanks!

I prefer the bottom koi. I'm not sure about the mark on the head (just a photo artifact?) but especially for single color koi the cleanliness of the head is an important factor. I would not buy the first koi, period.

I also liked the second the most, mostly for the body shape. I wasn't expecting a so much negative reaction for the first one though.

I'm adding a third option, but this one is even lighter color:

SimonW what you're seeing on the gills is normal breathing. I would stick with your third choice and stay away from color food's.

Third one isn't lighter, it's the lighting if you notice the color of the background. It does however, in my opinion, have the most uniform scales and skin. The body of the three looks very similar. I would go with the third one.

I wouldn't go with the first one the skin does not look on par with the other two.

For me, with Yamabuchi it's primarily about color and scalation. It's hard to judge the color differences from these three pictures, but from the scalation & skin, there is a clear loser, which is number 1. Numbers 2&3 have much better scalation, with, in my opinion, number 3 having the best. That said, number 3 has weaker pecks than 1 and 2. Also, as mentioned, number 2 seems to have a spot on its head...perhaps is just in the photo, but something to consider. I'd like to see these in person to make sure, but if I had to select based on these photos, I'd pick number 3.
