      Giant Bulrush (Schoenoplectus californicus)

Does anyone grow Giant Bulrush? I had collected some seeds a few years ago, Tossed them at a small retention pond in my community and now, about 6 or 7 years later, it's a Big clump about 8 feet long and about 4 feet wide. Everyone seems to enjoy them and some even moved them to ponds around their homes. But I recently offered them to someone and they sent me a link to a site that lists it as an invasive plant that should not be planted. It really hasn't grown uncontrollably. Maybe in a Marsh or swampy area it can really spread quickly and take over? I don't know but I think it Looks GREAT in a pond
      Any Comments?

Probably the same words were spoken by those with the first water hyacinth

:/ Good point. And it does seem to grow well here in SW Florida. I got the seeds from a hotel in Cape Coral and they're growing great in Hillsborough County! Guess I should stop offering them to people

      Make an organic kayak.

Many native plants are considered invasive. Depends on who's passing judgement. For my farmer neighbors everything growing not making money is invasive. At our local lake all the aquatic growth is considered invasive by boaters. It took a 40 year plus project to clean up our local lake from sediment and fertilizers. Now it's much clearer and sunlight is getting through. Aquatic weeds, most native, growing well and boaters are demanding the State use herbicides. Having most of the large boats and jet skis off the lake late summer has been wonderful for us fishermen with tiny boats and canoes.
