      Yamabuki ogon

      Hello,
I would like to know the quality of this koi. Unfortunately it’s the only koi that survived after my first year of koi keeping, all the rest are mutts.

      My 2 cents:

      Nice looking koi!

It seems to have even coloration and scale, that is nice.

But it need some improvement in confirmation, right now it is too thin. The tail tube is too thin, and I am not sure whether it can be thickened up by feeding.

I cannot tell the skin quality by photos.

      Thanks for the review!
Skin is ok now, it had 2 small wounds some months ago but both of them healed well.
I will try to thicken it up by buying larger food for him. He is the largest koi in the pond and i have been feeding smaller size food. maybe he couldn’t eat enough, i’m not sure.

Honestly for just personal enjoyment, its pretty nice. This bright I am looking for some darker coloration on some scales that would show signs of unstable genes and a pending big change to the color/pattern. As Simon noted though, the color seems pretty consistent throughout so now its just time to take care of it, feed it, and grow it to the best of your abilities.

Try a protein mix, as opposed to an all maintenance mix.

Mutts are a good learning curve.

Add one good one, and a mutt as a companions in the quarantine hold over tank.

      Then re-home the one.
