      Greenhouse Koi Pond

      Hi:

I made a pair of videos last year for the WK&WGS "virtual" pond tour. Forgive the terrible voiceover work! Given that we're likely to rehome a bunch of koi in the next few weeks, I also wanted to capture the current herd on video, so I shot that as well.

      Best,

Hi, stumbled on your videos a few weeks ago, I do like your large greenhouse to shelter the koi pond, given me and the wife food for thought if we ever move back to England where the climate lends itself less to spending quality time with your open air pond than sunny Italy. How does it cope with strong winds and snow?

I put a greenhouse over my pond sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, remove it typically in March.

      Hi Paul:

Thank you! We had a 0.5M/18" snowfall a few years ago, and the gabled roof shed snow well. It can be a bit of a chore getting the outswing door to open if the snow has piled up too much, but being in the dripping cool snow cave with the koi makes it worth it!

We get strong but not severe windstorms, and we haven't had many concerns on that front.

      regards,

      Hi Roddy:

We did the same for years. It was an odd feeling to skip that chore the first Fall with the greenhouse. I still have a 50' x 50' sheet of pond cover piled up in the corner - perils of the hobby!
