      Question Eggs Colors

Got a question on eggs colors. I knows everyone said the eggs supposedly white in colors when the koi spawned. My friend was telling me when his koi spawned there were two colors, red and white. What is the red color eggs koi? If anyone knows.

Most of the time koi egg's will be clear to translucent I've seen when the diet on a female koi could change the color on the egg's for example with color food. The only time I've seen white egg's is when they aren't fertilized but the white color doesn't start to show up till hour's later they are still clear when female spawn's.

Yes, those are the one that he separated out in time before the parents ate them. How about red color ones? Have you seen those? Or knows if they are the same?

To me they seem like a light tan color like tea. If they stay that way, they are fertilized. If they turn white they are infertile. I've never seen any that looked red.

It’s probably is. Maybe he thought it was red. Sometimes our eyes can play tricks on us and we do see different colors. Thanks.

When an egg looks white and the edges of the egg look fuzzy like white cotton, it usually means the egg is unfertilized or has died and fungus is growing on it. (Though it sounds like the ones you are talking about may not be white.) The ones that are alive and well look smooth and kind of light tan like those pictured in post #8 of this thread https://www.koiphen.com/forums/showt...-Goshiki-cross .

Fungus can spread from bad eggs to good eggs, reducing the hatch rate. But even if the fungus gets bad and looks like it is covering everything, often there will still be a lot of good eggs that will hatch that you may not realize were there until the fry come out.
