Kodama safe to buy from? Alternative shippers?

Is Kodama Koi Farm considered safe to buy from as far as how long it takes for koi to get to you, which impacts health? I live in Georgia. Any alternatives in the US that will ship nice koi? Thanks.

I purchased once from Kodama 2 years ago and all went well. The shipping even took an extra day and the fish were fine. I communicated multiple times during the delay and they were helpful. I did quarantine the fish and used treatments to be safe. We bought 4 and all are still healthy and I consider it a good experience. Only one of the 4 is less than what we would have liked it to be. It was a Dainichi Kohaku, which has developed multiple shimmies, but this maybe a result of my water.

Many WWKC Pros here sell koi
Check their protocol and shipping methods then you yourself should quarantine prior to adding to your pond

Russ Peters with PSKoi is the only one I trust. He has the highest quality fish and a BIO protocols second to none. His price is the lowest for the quality of fish you are getting.

I honestly wouldnt buy from Kodama unless it's some really cool or study tategoi. I think his prices are high for the quality of fish you get. Him and his staffs are very nice though. Russell is definitely the best for the price. If I wanna spend money for a HQ fish, I'd definitely shop else where. Kevin Pham is one of the top dealer, although he keep neglecting me even when I ask for tosai around 1.5k
Pan Intercorp has lots of super quality fish but you'll need to call in and talk.

Oh sorry when I mean shop else where, I meant toward Kodama, not Russell. Russell is good for everything.

I've had multiple purchases from Kodama and have been very pleased. I think prices have gone up considerably for the nicer fish in the last couple years, but that's probably the case for all dealers.

To answer your questions, Yes; but for alternative shippers you would have to ask him.

I know this thread goes back a couple of years, but I thought I'd pass this along. I've bought koi several times from Kodama from 2004 to 2022, always from the auction, as the prices usually seem better. I've been pleased with Kodama and would purchase there again. Two words of caution:
      • Be ready to carefully acclimate if buying in winter. Years ago, I had a shipment from tropical Hawaii to Oklahoma when it was much colder. The koi arrived okay but did not survive the acclimation. This was not Kodama's fault. I should have set up a tub in my garage for a while before moving them outside on a warmer day.
      • If you move to a new house, make doubly sure they get your address right. I updated my address on their site, but they still sent the koi to my old house. Fortunately it was just across town, and the new home owner was accommodating. The times I bought from Kodama after that, they got my address right.
