      heron question

I have had major heron problems this year and it's really making me consider redoing my pond is there any way to actually heron proof a pond? my current pond is 100% in ground it seems that even if I dug it with straight walls they would still be able to fish from the bank would making a raised wall be any better or would I have to do raised walls with a small fence around the top?

the pond is currently netted I'm just asking if there is something I can include in my renovation that will prevent them from getting my fish I'd rather not have a net over my pond if I could avoid it

Electrical wires? Look for Ci's Thread, she has done it with her pond.

      Blue herons!

Shear walls of 4 feet will work.

Wires 10' overhead with 2' spacing also does it.

I had good luck ending my predator problem by building up. On my rebuild I came up out of the ground about 30 inches. Stopped the predators and gave me the ability to see my koi up closer. I did not realize how enjoyable it would be to stand next to the pond and have the fish eating out of my hand until i rebuilt the pond. Will never have a pond completely in-ground again.

For the last 2-3 years I have had good results with a shade sale over the pond, I think they can't see the water/reflection and just fly over.
