      Koi for sale question

      Hello everyone,

I have about 12 koi that are approximately two years old and range from 14 inches to 20 inches. I'm looking to sell them, but I have no idea how to evaluate and determine value or quality. I was wondering if someone here, or know someone could help me with this. I would be willing to pay to have them evaluated, and pay a percentage of the sales if the koi are nice enough to sell if someone would be willing to look at my fish and help me determine value. I live in Glendora CA.

      Thank you.

      Adam Kennedy

Adam, get in touch with one of your clubs in your area to see if someone can come out to help you evaluate your koi in the event that idea falls thru you can always go to eBay or aquabid one of those can help you move those koi. Always Keeping in mind that 3 to 7 dollars an inch is a fair price for domestics. Always Keeping in mind that those prices are for above average koi, body conformation and patterns being the best selling points.

Thank you Orlando. I've reached out to a few clubs but no reply yet. Would posting some underwater video of my koi maybe help you guys evaluate?

Oh wow I'm 10 mins away from you. The easiest IMO is to just post the koi pictures on here. If you have any question you can PM me. You can also come over to check out my koi/set up if you want

Sorry but I have to give it to you bluntly. Those koi will not be worth much. The color is off and the body is strangely shaped. Listed them for $20 each, you'll be lucky if someone want them. Pond space is the most scarce thing in this hobby. Somebody that is starting new and just wants something big might take them . GOod luck

My how the hobby has changed... 20 years ago I was the only one that would say such a truthful statement. Back when Koivet.com was THE REAL DEAL St Ephen kept posting photos of similar such koi. And the current "bastions" (*******s) of the Hobby Pm'd me, and asked me to tell him to quit posting photos of them because they took up too much of the site's bandwidth..and he had the cash yo create.... this.
      LOL
      Thanks for brightening my Morning.

Yeah, I guess we got better than 20 years ago. LOL! No pun intended to the OP. I do have limited spaces, so like wildworlddisco said, I am more selective in what I am looking for. Especially now, since my DW had made a requests to look for a certain Koi. I can't just bring any Koi home any more, I was at a local pet store the other day and saw some nice Koi. I was tempted to get them, I had to past them over and not get them.

I appreciate the brutal honesty. I'm sure I have pond mutts, but here's some good video just in case I have a nice one in the bunch

what that video showed me is that you are a respectable koi hobbyist.
Good quality koi (but half as many) would lead a good life in that set up.
Here is something to ponder... the koi are not bred to be seen from the side, ONLY from above. people with a sensibility of how a fish can be attractive from the side find koi side views upsetting. And whenever judging a koi's value the only increase in value from a side view would be to show the lack of damage to the underside of the koi.
Koi are only "appreciated/judged" from above.

I was not trying to be brutal (and I was not, TBH), if I was I do apologize. I am looking for a specific ones (as stated) due to the fact that my DW made a requests to get it. And I only have so much room in my pond. I have a 550ish gallons size pond, and currently I have 7 Koi and 1 Wakin GF in there ranging from about close to 4" to 12" long. Some might already said I have too many already in the pond, because they will grow bigger and needed more room. But if anything, I would only get that one for my DW.

You are correct those are some nice Koi.

And you are also correct that the Koi should ONLY be enjoy from above, not side.

Sometimes it's kind of pointless for people with no more knowledge than the poster to post replies/advice...

If I'm not mistaken Facebook prohibits selling of live animals / pets...I'd look into Craigslist...

In a giant aquarium even koi considered mutt from above can be very good-looking.

I donīt think that koi looks bad from side in comparison to other fish.

On the top of my wish list is something like is:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMT6muoh_Ck

Nevertheless a mutt is still a mutt, and not so many people are willing to pay well for it.
