      Swimming Pool to Koi Oasis

      Hey guys,

I joined here years ago, because I've always wanted a koi pond. Last summer we bought an old home that has a pool in need of a lot of repairs. I deliberated on how to fix it for a few months. But, recently, I decided that I'd rather use the space for koi. I understand pools and koi ponds are very different, but I figure, at the very least, I have a hole dug.

My first question to you experts, is if there's a depth that's too deep? This pool is 9' on the deep end. I figure I'll be installing at least two new bottom drains and I'll, likely, be filling in a little to do it, but is there any reason to make the deep end a lot shallower? I understand the need for depth to deter predators and to prevent winter freezing (although I live in Northern Alabama)., but I don't know if there's a "too deep."Name: 20210420_174457.jpg

Wow! Big enough for a koi pond on one end, a quarantine pond on the other and a people oasis deck in the center over filtration equipment.
The real Batman wears polyester! Don't be fooled by the plastic imposter.

I'm still a little nervous about not just repairing the pool. But, we aren't moving again unless something unforseen and drastic happens. And, we'd rather have a pond than a pool.

Anyway, I have lots of filter research to do before I can start planning.

Make sure you remove that ladder so the fish don't climb out.

Yeah, Mich did a great job with that one. I even envy it, I wishes I have one of those.

It is nerve recking to jump in not knowing with something you have not done before (I know it too many times), been through it myself. Just done it with my 550 gallons Koi Pond (had to fixed it 3 times, liner leaks issues with wrong type of liner used). So, I know how you feels. They cost can goes up drastically if you don't plan it right. But if you follows mich's thread and what he did, I am pretty sure you'll do well with your renovation from pool to Koi Pond.

Don't forget to updates us of pictures and status of your Koi Pond.
